Winners of Sultan Qaboos Awards for Culture, Arts named

Muscat: The Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science (SQHCCS) announced the winners of the Sultan Qaboos Awards for Culture, Arts and Literature for 2017 for the Arabs in culture and literature.


The announcement was made by Habib bin Mohammed al Riyami, Secretary-General of SQHCCS, during a press conference at the Institute of Islamic Sciences in Muscat. Sultan Qaboos Awards for Culture, Arts and Literature is an annual award given to Arabs and Omanis in alternate years.


Jalaluddin Ahmed Amin of Egypt won the award in economic studies. In architectural design, the committee could not find suitable winners. Saad bin Abdul Rahman al Bazai from Saudi Arabia won the award for literary criticism.


Al Riyami said 26 persons in economic studies, 22 persons in the field of architectural design and 28 persons in literary criticism were short-listed for the awards.


The award aims to promote culture, contribute to the scientific development and intellectual enrichment, to consolidate the accumulation of knowledge and instil values ​​of the originality and modernity among the emerging generations by providing a fertile environment based on cognitive and intellectual competition. — ONA
