MUSCAT: The 13th annual cultural event of Uttaranchal wing of Indian Social Club Oman was held recently with a range of performances by talented members of the wing.

The theme, ‘Celebrations’, was based on popular poems and songs representing Himalayan beauty, rich vegetation, serene environment, gurgling rivers and on top of it, the utmost simplicity of people celebrating life with joy.

The cultural event being held annually brought together the local talents and entertained the members of the Uttaranchal wing of ISC, who largely belong to the north Indian state of Uttarakhand.

The event began with a prayer followed by yoga and dance performances by children. ISC wing convener Govind Negi, who welcomed the gathering, thanked the participants and admired their enthusiasm shown in the participation.

Young members staged a string of folk dance, couple dance and fusion dance performances, which enthralled the audience. Chief guest C M Sardar, vice-chairman of ISC, shared a few interesting facts about the ‘Devbhoomi’ (the land of gods), the name Uttaranchal state is popularly known by.

Dr Rakesh Belwal recalled the historical events that shaped the state. Co-convener Shiv Bahuguna proposed a vote of thanks.
