ALEXANDRIA: The gunman who opened fire at US lawmakers playing baseball on Wednesday, wounding a top Republican lawmaker, has died of his injuries after a shoot-out with police, US President Donald Trump confirmed.
Trump praised the Capitol Police force and local law enforcement, both of which responded to the shooting in Alexandria, Virginia, a Washington suburb.
“We do well in times like these to remember that everyone who serves in the nation’s capital is here because, above all, they love our country,” Trump said.
House Republican Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who was wounded in the shooting, is a good friend and patriot, Trump said. “America is praying for you and for all the victims of the terrible shooting,” he said. SEE ALSO P10
