MUSCAT: The Ultrasonography Training Course, organised by the Royal Hospital (RH) represented by Foetal Medicine Unit in collaboration with the Women and Child Department as well as the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG), began on Sunday.

The opening ceremony was held at the Royal Hospital main auditorium under the auspices of Dr Mohammed Saif al Hosni, Ministry of Health’s (MoH) Under-Secretary for Health Affairs. ISUOG Regional Representative Pro Hisham al Mirghani and a number of MoH officials were present on the occasion.

The five-day course aims at qualifying 30 specialists from different health institutions in order to train doctors in using ultrasound in pregnancy.

The programme provides trainers with the latest obstetric ultrasound techniques and covers a range of ultrasound-related obstetric and gynaecological subjects.

Within the opening of the course, Dr Al Hosni launched the Ultrasound Simulator device (SCANTRAINER), a first of its kind in the Sultanate. Its introduction will promote ultrasound for healthcare professionals.

The device also facilitates early detection of any possible congenital abnormalities.
