MUSCAT: Princess Dina Mired Al Hussein (pictured), President of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), praised the interaction of the Sultanate and its preventive and health activities to fight cancer through its efforts exerted on all sectors. She expressed her great happiness to visit the Sultanate, which is witnessing a remarkable development in the health sector in various fields. In an interview published in a local Arabic newspaper on Tuesday, she pointed out that during her first visit to the Sultanate, she felt the seriousness of the government’s decision to combat cancer through the enactment of legislations and laws on the level of health and environmental protection and health and behavioural practices in the society and its institutions, which placed the Sultanate at the level of advanced countries in health services in this aspect.

She praised the high levels reached by the treatment and health services in the Sultanate, especially with regard to cancer. She hoped that there would be cooperation and bridging between them and the King Hussein Cancer Centre at the level of training and exchange of experiences. She also pointed out that the Sultanate has a solid ground and many potentials that qualify it to host the UICC 2020 World Cancer Congress and the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit (WCLS), which will in turn contribute to closer relations with UICC. Princess Dina expressed her pride of the Sultanate’s hosting of this conference, which coincides with its presidency of UICC during the period 2018 to 2020, which marks the inauguration of the first Arab woman to be the president of the union. — ONA
