Abu Dhabi: Fujairah have sacked coach Diego Maradona after they missed promotion to the Arabian Gulf League (AGL). The move was announced in a tweet by Fujairah late on Friday hours after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Khor Fakkan. The result left Fujairah third in the table, denying them automatic promotion to the UAE’s top competition, the Arabian Gulf League. So far, there has been no comment from the Argentina football great, now aged 57. The 1986 World Cup winner was in charge of the Argentina national team from 2008 to 2010. He then spent a year with another UAE-based club, Al Wasl, between 2011 and 2012. — dpa
