Two people die of coronavirus in Oman: MOH

Muscat: Two people have succumbed to coronavirus (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) in Oman, reported the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Monday.


It added a total of five new cases have been registered in Oman with patients treated at a referral hospital.


The Ministry of Health (MoH) said the total number of registered cases from various parts of the Sultanate reached to 19 cases since 2013.


The MOH offered its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and thanked the members of the community for their cooperation to reduce the spread of infection.


The MoH said it is monitoring the situation through Epidemiological Surveillance System and the hospitals in Oman are capable for dealing with such cases.


The ministry urged citizens and residents to comply with preventative measures to control infection and to cover nose  and mouth when sneezing.


The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has confirmed the absence of coronavirus in cattle and camels of the Sultanate.


The ministry said it has conducted the necessary sampling and follow-up of herds of cattle and camels in the home of citizens suspected of contracting the disease. The results of laboratory tests showed the absence of these animals from the virus.


In its statement, the ministry expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the missing persons, and confirmed that the cattle in the Sultanate are free from the virus to date.
