Tuberculosis conference begins

MUSCAT: The International Tuberculosis Conference was inaugurated in Muscat on Wednesday. The conference is organized by the Directorate-General for  Disease Surveillance and Control of the Ministry of Health (MOH) — Department of Communicable Diseases Control. As more as 13 national and international speakers from Italy and Canada are taking part in this two-day conference. The conference is attended by more than 200 participants from all directorates. The conference aims at updating the participants on the diagnosis, treatment prevention and infection control of the tuberculosis, as well as TB /HIV collaborative activity.


The conference agenda discusses the World Health Organization (WHO) TB elimination strategic plan, as well as the management guidelines for Medicine Resistance Tuberculosis (MDRTB) in adults and children. In addition, the conference addresses the role of Bedaquiline as a new anti TB in the management of MDRTB. The participants were updated on the diagnosis and management Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI).  — ONA
