New Delhi: Donald Trump Junior, the eldest son of US President Donald Trump, has arrived in India as part of a week-long trip to sell luxury Trump properties while offering wealthy investors an exclusive audience.

Trump Jr, who is the head of the family business, participated in discussions with Indian developers in New Delhi on Tuesday to push sales of the opulent Trump flats in four Indian cities. On what is dubbed as an “unofficial” visit, the businessman will not only promote his family’s real-estate projects, but will also deliver a foreign policy speech on Indo-Pacific relations in the Indian capital later this week. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the key-note speaker at the event. India is the Trump Organization’s biggest market outside of the United States in terms of projects, Trump Jr told reporters. It has five real estate projects under way in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata and New Delhi’s suburb of Gurgaon.

In the past few days, Trump’s Indian partners have published full-page glossy ads on Trump’s visit and the latest project in Gurgaon under the headline “Trump is here - Are You Invited?” Each apartment at the upcoming 47-storey tower is being sold in the range of $850,000 to $1.5 million. In the US, campaigners and media have pointed out the conflict of interest during Trump Jr’s India visit while alleging President Trump was profiting from his businesses as a result of being president.

“The planned speech by Trump Jr has renewed conflict of interest concerns, with some questioning why the US President’s son will be lecturing on foreign policy while simultaneously trying to hawk lavish new condominiums,” The Washington Post said in a report. — dpa
