MUSCAT: Pursuant to the decision of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) issued on October 16, 2016 on the formulation of a specialised task force to update a benchmark comparative study of the retail prices of telecommunications services in Oman in comparison with neighbouring countries in coordination with neutral and independent parties in Oman while adopting the highest levels of transparency and neutrality in undertaking the study, TRA invited a number of government bodies and academic institutions to take part in this study namely: Sultan Qaboos University, the Shura Council, the Research Council, Ministry of Transport & Communications and the National Centre for Statistics and Information.

All the invitees welcomed this opportunity and confirmed their willingness to participate.

By the end of 2016, TRA, in coordination with the representatives of the participants, finalised the process of floating and awarding a tender to seek the services of an international consultant in the field of benchmarking studies on prices.

The consultants embarked upon the assigned study and a meeting was held with TRA task force with the presence of the participating government bodies and academic institutions to discuss the scope of work and the methodology of the benchmark study and the data required from the operators to conclude the study.
