Tourism sector progress reviewed

MUSCAT: The third meeting of the Steering Committee of the Tourism Sector held at the Tourism Ministry on Wednesday to follow up the outputs of the economic diversification enhancement initiatives under the chairmanship of Ahmed bin Nasser al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism, and in the presence of the implementation and follow up support unit, as well as representatives from government agencies, and private sector’s companies and institutions. The meeting reviewed what has been achieved on the development of work progress on the tourism sector initiatives and the challenges facing some of the initiatives in order to accelerate the pace of work in the implementation of initiatives that came out of tourism laboratory to achieve economic diversification, which the Sultanate is seeking in light of global economic conditions due to low oil prices.


The meeting reviewed the initiative of the development of the natural activities and activities of challenge and adventure. The Initiative Team held a meeting earlier with officials from the Ministry of Tourism, where the activities guide was reviewed, and got final approval. The meeting touched on the key performance initiative indicators. The team explained that work was in progress to complete the initiatives, through regular meetings with the heads of the teams and initiatives to see what has been reached of developments, work progress and the challenges they face and how to solve them. Those performance indicators should be completed later this month.


The Steering Committee is seeking through economic diversification initiatives to harmonise its plans to go with the strategy of Oman Tourism to develop this sector, accelerate the pace of implementation of the plans in the field of tourism so as to achieve economic diversification and help stakeholders to implement their projects and plans in accordance with best practices. — ONA
