Tourism is one of the best sectors to invest in Oman and holds tremendous potential for recruiting Omani cadres.
Shaikh Salem al Ghazali, Chairman of Golden Group Holding said the company had interviewed 130 individuals out of which 30 candidates were selected who went through training with Shaza. Out of the 150 staff members at Mysk Shaza, Al Mouj Muscat 30 per cent are nationals.
“The recruited individuals went through the training and they are now everywhere from reception, accounts and all other departments. I think hospitality sector is one of the main areas that could create job opportunities because technology performs a bigger role in other sectors, for example, in factory machinery could do majority of the operation and the organisation would require only 20 to 25 members even in a large factory,” Salem said.
Hotel on the other hand is people based industry. “In the case of Mysk we have 195 rooms and we have appointed 150 people.” The investor feels as part of tourism infrastructure it is important to have a variety of facilities. “We have the culture, history, weather and tourism attractions.
But any country with attractions without the infrastructure would find it difficult to attract visitors. That is why we think it is important to focus on three, four and five star hotels that are distributed in various parts of the country giving people the options. It is good to give options of hotels located near the beach, in the middle of the town and in exclusive areas.”
The group has one more hotels coming up in Salalah with Shaza with 350 rooms and another one with Rehana Rotana. In total the group has seven hotels.
“We are very confident that the tourism sector is one of the best areas to invest in Oman,” he concluded.
