A statement by the Ministry of Social Development, said 10 per cent of the 7,300 people in various evacuation centres are Omanis. Around 500 people have been evacuated in Al Wusta Governorate while 200 patients shifted from hospitals in Dhofar have been accommodated in various hotels of the capital.

Royal Oman Police (ROP) said on Friday that its evacuation shelters in Dhofar and Al Wusta are open to both citizens and residents and equipped with necessary supplies in cooperation with the National Civil Defence Commission (NCCD).

The authorities have been urging people to avoid risks and move to evacuation shelters if their residential localities have been rated vulnerable or as a high risk zone.

In separate messages, ROP requested citizens and residents to stay in their homes or shelters, and not to drive as the cyclone will be followed by strong winds and heavy rainfall.

Public Authority for Civil Defence (PACDA) too urged people to follow its safety instructions to avoid any risk. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), meanwhile, urged people to save fuel and use their vehicle in emergencies only.
