Temperatures will be on the higher side of 40s in some parts of the Sultanate in the next three days, Oman Meteorology has said. Muscat could see a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius. Ibra and Sur might see a maximum temperature of 48 degrees Celsius, Nizwa and Rustaq 47, Khasab and Suhar 43, Buraimi 46 and Duqm 42. Night temperatures will be in the range of 30s in most parts of the country. Salalah is expected to see the lowest temperature of 33 degrees Celsius. An official at Oman Meteorology Department said the mercury levels will remain on the higher side until the end of this month.

The Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulances (PACDA) has urged people to exercise caution, especially against use of faulty devices which may result in short-circuits and house fires. In the last two weeks, there have been reports of two fires, including one in a house that claimed two lives. Ramadhan during summer also means longer fasting hours. According to nutritionists, one should drink plenty of fluids and water between iftar and suhour to prevent dehydration. Limit intake of fried foods and foods high in fat and sugar, they say. Avoid foods high in salt such as pickles, salty crackers and nuts, and canned food. Nutritionists have advised against drinking too much tea and overeating during suhour.
