A symposium on the late Shaikh Said bin Khalaf al Kharousi, Assistant to the former Grand Mufti of the Sultanate, began at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) on Monday under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tareq al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs, and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan. The symposium is organised by the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs represented by ‘Ifta’ Office in cooperation with the Omani Studies Centre at SQU. The symposium coincides with the first death anniversary of Shaikh Said al Kharousi. The symposium aims to shed light on his biography, the legacy of his literary, juristic and scientific production and his life.

The symposium also seeks to open up a field for researchers and those who are interested in the jurisprudential, judicial and literary heritage to explore the rich heritage of Shaikh Said al Kharousi. It also aims to highlight the role he played in the judiciary and the Fatwa in the Sultanate for 50 years. The symposium included a documentary film about the biography of the late shaikh. There were also two sessions that included seven working papers presented by elite scholars and writers. The symposium is accompanied by a two-day exhibition that contains a collection of important documents, historical letters and some personal pictures. It also contains a corner of shaikh’s personal possessions. — ONA
