Symposium lays stress on proper handling of skin diseases

SALALAH, dec 19 - The primary healthcare workers of Sultan Qaboos Hospital (SQH), local healthcare centres and private hospitals got to know basic as well as advanced skills of handling dermatology cases and got guidelines on how to process referral letters to a dermatologist, including what information to include and how to structure the document.


The healthcare workers got these exposures at Al Bleed Resort Salalah during a symposium held for common skin diseases and their management by the primary healthcare workers. The SQH’s dermatology unit, in cooperation with the Department of Professional Development and Career Guidance of the hospital, organised the event in association with Galderma, which is a pharmaceutical subsidiary specialising in the research, development and marketing of dermatological treatments.


The symposium was inaugurated by Salem bin Ali al Shukaili, Assistant Director-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Directorate-General of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate. About 100 participants from Sultan Qaboos Hospital, local health centres and private sector healthcare providers took part in the event.


Dr Lutfi bin Omar al Katheri, Consultant Dermatologist and Head of Dermatology Unit at Sultan Qaboos Hospital, hailed the conference as “the first dermatology gathering which aims to train primary healthcare workers and inform them of the basic skills related to dermatology.
