Symposium focuses on radiation safety

MUSCAT: Symposium on the ‘Challenges in the Application of Radiation Safety in Oman’ was held on Tuesday at the Oman College of Health Sciences Auditorium under the patronage of Dr Ali bin Talib al Hinai, Ministry of Health’s Under-Secretary for Planning Affairs.


The symposium was organised by the Directorate-General of Specialised Medical Care, Ministry of Health, as well as Department of Medical Imaging, Oman Collage of Health Sciences (OCHS), to shed light on the specialty of radiology in the Sultanate that proves advancement on health diagnostics field.


It aimed at strengthening radiation safety and raise awareness on the importance of ionising radiation protection regulations in improving the radiological services and patient safety.


The symposium was attended by radiology workers including radiologists, radiographers, medical physicists, physicians as well as others from allied professions.


Dean of OCHS, Dr Mustafa Mohammed Fahmi, highlighted in his welcome speech that the event would discuss the challenges facing Radiology Department in the Sultanate regarding the application and prevention methods of radiation by hosting professions specialised in the field of radiation


safety.
