Suwaiq Port starts commercial operations

Muscat: The Port of Suwaiq commenced its commercial operations in the presence of the Minister of Transport and Communications, a number of officials, agents and specialists from the ministry, other government agencies and Asyad.

Saturday’s inauguration followed the successful pilot operation, which began on August 15 –  two weeks before the start of commercial operations.

This port will integrate with other major ports in the Sultanate to take advantage of the potential and maximize the benefits of the maritime transport sector.

The commercial port will be able to start receiving commodities such as general merchandise, livestock, vegetables and fruits from major international markets.

The port will also serve as a platform for the private sector to develop and provide support services within and around the port.

MOTC has assigned the task of managing the operations at the port of Suwaiq to Marafi Company.

Marafi Asyad has plans to increase of capacity handling at the port to enable it handle more goods through large vessels.
