Sur CAS to host national symposium on May 1, 2

MUSCAT: Under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education, the Department of Information Technology in Sohar College of Applied Sciences is organising a National Symposium on Bridging Education and Industry for Next Generation (BEING’18).


BEING’18 will be held on May 1, 2 at Sohar College of Applied Sciences for the purpose of gathering academicians, technologists and students to exchange their productive ideas and to share their enlightened and insightful visions.


Moreover, BEING’18 will offer faculty members and students the opportunity to meet academic and technical researchers in order to exchange their innovations, discuss the achieved research results, meet the needs of the Ministry of Higher Education as well as the Omani society, and provide plans and facilities for future research activities.


The symposium will feature plenary sessions on Innovations in Software Development, Networks and Communications, Data Management and Intelligence Security and Digital Rights Management System, Challenges and Opportunities, Knowledge Factory, English for Science and Technology, Involving Stakeholders of Industry, Diverse Institutions and Multiple Engineering Programmes, English for Specific Purposes and IT Students’ Language Needs.


Additionally, BEING’18 invites final year graduate students of Information Technology from all Colleges of Applied Sciences. Totally 18 teams are eligible to participate in the Software Project Competition (SPC).


Over 50 students are expected to compete including those from the host college. The top three teams win valuable prizes annually. SPC will be held on May 2, the concluding day of BEiNG’18.
