MUSCAT, June 2 - The Sultanate will experience heat wave conditions as temperatures will soar beyond 40 in the coming days, according to the Met Office at the Public Authority for Civil Aviation. The reason is the westerly winds. Muscat recorded 40 degree Celsius on Saturday and is expected to stay in the same range for the next few days. Chances of cloud advection and isolated rain along the coastal areas of Dhofar Governorate and chances of low level clouds development over Al Hajar Mountains along most of the coastal areas are expected. However, the temperatures are expected to increase in the next few days after which the heat may come down a little as per the Met Office.

While Mudhaibi, Mahout, Ibri, Fahud and Adam touched 47 degree Celsius on Saturday; Nizwa, Rustaq and Bahla recorded 46 degree. Comparatively cooler was Suhar and Thamrait with 37 C with Saiq recording 30 C. Jabal al Akhdar and Jabal Shams recorded 27 C. “The high temperature is due to westerly winds and is expected to increase,” said a meteorologist at the Met Office. “As you know westerly winds come with the heat and the temperature should stay around 41 to 42 C in Muscat.”
