Sultanate records 0.87pc increase in inflation

MUSCAT: Inflation rate in the Sultanate recorded an increase of 0.87 per cent in June 2017 compared to the same month of the previous year.


This increase was attributed to the increase in the prices of tobacco group by 23.84 per cent, furnishings, household equipment and routing household maintenance group by 2.9 per cent, education group by 2.85 per cent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuel group by 1.44 per cent, miscellaneous goods and services groups by 1.4 per cent, foods & non-alcoholic beverages group by 0.89 per cent, transport group by 0.66 per cent, health group by 0.40 per cent restaurants and hotels group by 0.33 per cent, clothing and footwear group by 0.25 per cent, recreation and culture group by 0.16 per cent.


On the other hand the price of communication group decreased by 2.93 per cent, during June 2017 compared to the corresponding month of 2016.


The general indices of consumer prices decreasing by 0.18 per cent during June 2017 compared to the previous month, due to the decrease in the prices of transport group by 2.55 per cent, clothing and footwear group by 0.3 per cent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuel group by 0.13 per cent, restaurants and hotels group by 0.1 per cent, tobacco group by 0.07 per cent, communication group by 0.03 per cent.


On the other hand, the prices of Foods and non-alcoholic beverages group increased by 1.73 per cent. This increase was attributed to the


increase in price of Vegetables by 8.59 per cent, fruits by 6.45 per cent, and fish and seafood by 0.89 per cent. While the miscellaneous goods and services group increased by 0.06 per cent.


While, the price of furnishings, household equipment and routing household maintenance, health, recreation and culture. Education groups was stable during June 2017 compared to the previous month.


Inflation in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Group in the Governorates June 2017:


The most governorates of the Sultanate witnessed an increase in the inflation rate of June 2017 compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, where North Al Batinah governorate recorded an increase of 1.67 per cent, Dhofar governorate by 1.02 per cent, Muscat governorate recorded an increase of 0.86 per cent, North and South of Al Sharqiyah governorates by 0.57 per cent, Al Dahirah governorate by 0.27 per cent, Al Dakhiliyah governorate by 0.15 per cent, while the rate of the inflation decreased in the Buraimi governorate by 0.88 per cent, during June 2017 compared to June 2016.
