Sultanate, Nepal sign MoU for mutual visa exemption

Muscat: In a major move to ease travel woes, the Sultanate of Oman and Nepal have signed an agreement on mutual Visa Exemption for the holder of diplomatic, special, service and official passports at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Monday.


Mohamed bin Nasser bin Mohamed al Wahaibi, Undersecretary- Administration and Financial, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Nepal to the Sultanate, signed the agreement for their respective governments.


Their excellencies congratulated each other for achieving one more milestone in the diplomatic relations between two countries permitting easier movement of officials of two countries.


"This new step forward in the bilateral relations will take the joint efforts in various matters to a new level," said Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Nepal to the Sultanate.


Both countries have signed a number of MoU’s on bilateral consultations, on air services, in the field of labour, avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion of taxes on income, tourism cooperation, and in cultural and museum fields recently.


Speaking at the occasion their excellencies also discussed several issues of mutual bilateral interest from tourism to investment promotion between the two countries.


Mutual visa waiver for officials and diplomats was one of the topics in the Visit Nepal Year (VNY) 2020 campaign organised by the Embassy of Nepal in Oman, in cooperation with the VNY secretariat, in the presence of the Ambassadors of Nepal to Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, Israel and Pakistan.


As a token of enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations, the Embassy of Nepal bought the land to build its own diplomatic building which was aimed at serving the bilateral interests of both the countries.


"We have started the ground works of the construction of our new building the agreement for which was signed on recently," Dhakal further said.
