Sultanate to mark Omani Environment Day today

MUSCAT: The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, will mark the Omani Environment Day which falls on January 8 every year, today. The Omani Environment Day has been marked since 1997 on the directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to give strong boost to the continued environmental efforts aimed at protecting the Omani environment and conserving eco-system and natural resources which form a key pillar of sustainable development.


Held under the title ‘Our Environment is Our Life’ the Omani Environment Day celebrations will begin in Al Buraimi Governorate.


The line-up for the Omani Environment Day includes lectures at Al Qurum Nature Park aimed at increasing the public awareness about environmental issues and cleaning campaigns, an open day for beach clean-up and entertainment activities.


A campaign will be held in Musandam Governorate for plantation of wild trees, presentation of the environmental violations which occurred in 2016 and environmental awareness seminars. A working campaign will be held at the Al Hazm Castle in South Al Batinah Governorate and a clean-up campaign for coral reefs at the Daymaniyat Islands Nature Reserve.
