Sultanate, Jordan sign MoU in military cooperation

MUSCAT: The Sultanate and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of military cooperation between the two countries at the headquarters of the Sultan’s Armed Forces.


The MoU was signed by Lt Gen Ahmed bin Harith al Nabhani, SAF Chief of Staff, and Lt Gen Mahmoud Abdel Halim Freihat, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.


The MoU includes strengthening military cooperation between the defence ministries of the two brotherly countries by exchanging experiences and knowledge in the military fields, cooperating in conducting joint military exercises, holding courses, educational programmes, sports and cultural activities and medical services.


The signing ceremony was attended by a number of SAF senior officers and the delegation accompanying the guest.


Meanwhile, Lt Gen Mahmoud Abdul Halim Freihat, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and his delegation visited the National Defence College (NDC).


He was greeted upon his arrival at the college’s HQs’ at Mu’askar Bait Al Falaj by Maj Gen Salim bin Musallam Qatan, Commandant of NDC. The visiting guest was briefed on the NDC, its facilities and the modern equipment that contribute to achieving the NDC’s vision in preparing the national leadership cadres.

Lt Gen Mahmoud Abdul Halim Freihat and his delegation visited the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) Museum in the Bait Al Falaj Castle.


Brigadier Saleh bin Ahmed al Hinai, Head of the Military Protocols and Public Relations at COSAF, escorted them in a tour to various sections of the museum.


The guest viewed a side of the historic stages of the Omani civilisation and its roles in different fields. The guest also viewed the historic manuscripts and models, as well as the Omani architecture in the Bait Al Falaj Castle.


He was also briefed on the progress enjoyed by SAF during the prosperous reign of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.


At the end of the visit, the guest signed the visitors’ book, expressing his delight to view the ancient Omani heritage and history, as well as the military antiques that narrate the SAF progress. — ONA
