Sultanate attends 100th session of Arab Economic and Social Council

CAIRO: The Sultanate, represented by the Supreme Council for Planning (SCP) on Thursday took part in deliberations of the 100th session of the Arab Economic and Social Council at the Ministerial Level. The Sultanate’s delegation was led by Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, SCP Secretary General.


The meeting discusses the report of the Arab League’s Secretary General with regard to monitoring and following up implementation of the resolutions adopted by the 99th session of the Economic and Social Council between the last two rounds.


Moreover, the attending delegates address the Economic and Social File in preparation for the Convention of the Arab League Council at the Summit Level during its 29th regular session due to be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in March and to follow up the resolutions passed by the Arab-African Summit during its fourth session held in the Republic of Guinea.


Furthermore, the Council discusses the follow-up on the implementation of Riyadh Declaration issued during the Summit of South American-Arab Countries for the year 2015 and the preparation for the summit during its fifth session scheduled to take place in Venezuela in 2018.


Additionally, the meeting will discuss the existing economic cooperation between the Arab League, UN, the Greater Arab Free Trade Association (GAFTA) and the developments of the Arab Customs Union (ACU).


Further, the meeting discusses certain topics relevant to both economic and social sectors including without limitation the potential investment opportunities in the Arab countries and the project of the Arab Competitiveness Programme. — ONA
