LONDON: The Sultanate was ranked second in the Arab world in the Sustainable Policies Index and second in Arab world and ninth internally in openness of higher education systems index, which measures international student mobility.

The full report, titled The Shape of Global Higher Education, was published by the British Council at the beginning of August.

The ‘Shape of global higher education’ series aims to measure the role of governments in international engagement of higher education. This study covers 38 countries and territories from Peru through Sri Lanka to Australia and from the Netherlands to South Africa.

The report ranked the Sultanate second in the Arab world and ninth internationally in education efficiency requirements and 2nd in the Arab world and 12th internationally in terms of the national policy index and regulatory frameworks supportive of student mobility.

This report shows that the majority of national governments are preoccupied with international student mobility. As a result, streamlined visa policies and generous funding for student mobility have been put in place. Overall, there is a strong positive relationship between the policies supporting international student mobility and policies supporting transnational education.
