Nijkerk, the Netherlands: Omani rider Sultan al Touqi has once again made the country proud by winning first place at a showjumping event at Nijkerk in the Netherlands where he rode Omani bred horse Taloubet Zeus to victory, leaving behind riders from the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Italy and Kuwait. This is Sultan’s debut season with Taloubet and the pair has already put up incredible performances at two different competitions in the Netherlands — the first at the Houten Grand Prix and the second at Nijkerk. At the same competition another Omani, 12-year old Warith al Mahrouqi stood third in his class, which is considered to be an incredible performance for his age.

Sponsored by the perfume brand ‘Amouage’, Sultan rode seamlessly and stood third after a battle with other expert riders at the event.

“We are immensely proud of Sultan for the achievements he’s made while in Holland. It is his first season riding Taloubet and the pair has proven to be a great one,” said Hamood al Touqi, Sultan’s father and guide.

Sultan was placed first with Taloubet and third with Games Boy, putting him in great stead for his upcoming appearance at the Longines Masters in November, and has put Oman on the international showjumping results tables.

“We are absolutely brimming with pride and beyond proud of them and full of excitement to see what the rest of the season holds for the pair. This comes with special thanks to Amouage for sponsoring the team and making this dream come true. Without them this wouldn’t been possible,” he added.

Ingrid van der Weiden, the teams’ trainer has expressed her sheer delight at the results that have been achieved so far.

“I wish Sultan more success and I will do all I can to support him all the way to the top. From winning a Youth Olympic Silver medal at a young age I truly believe nothing will come in his way.

“Every time he rides stronger and better than the time before, consistently placing on the podium amongst other great riders from the GCC — of which all have full backing from their respective governments. Amouage have stepped in and not only sponsored but supported a team that shows no signs of slowing down. I’m absolutely delighted,” she further said.

Sultan is currently training hard under the supervision of his instructor and his father to excel at the Longines Masters event which will take place in November this year.

The Parisian event will see the best of the best from all over the world compete in the French capital in November for the European leg of the Grand Slam Indoor of Showjumping.

“I am grateful to His Majesty the Sultan for his wonderful vision for our country in all sectors including sports. It is because of his great vision that the nation is developing in all fields today. I pray that the Almighty bless him. I am training really hard to excel at the Longines Masters event, I know if will be a tough fight but I will give it my all,” said Sultan.

Sultan is a forth generation rider in his family and has had horses around him from when he was a toddler.
