By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: A court in Sohar recently passed judgement in cases under the Consumer Protection Act, which included fines worth over RO 5,000. As per the details available, a consumer lodged a complaint with the Directorate General of Consumer Protection in Suhar against a company dealing with the export of vehicles.

The company agreed to ship the vehicle to Egypt and complete the procedures in less than three weeks. The company failed not able to meet the terms of the agreement and was unable to receive the vehicle from the office in Egypt because the clearance papers were not delivered by the company.

After making several unsuccessful visits to the company, he approached the consumer protection court.

After investigating the case, it was referred for legal authority, which condemned the first defendant, the second defendant in absentia, for failing to meet their commitments of providing the service within the specified period.  The first defendant was fined RO 300 and second RO 100. They were asked to pay RO 1,500 to the plaintiff.

In the second case, a labor recruitment office was accused of not able to meet the terms of an agreement signed with a client.

The court sentenced the defendant and fined him RO 500, the second defendant with RO 100 along with a obligation to refund the sum of RO 1,400 to the plaintiff.
