MUSCAT, Oct 8 - Expatriates working in the private sector should submit their X-ray report along with medical report at the time of renewal of resident visa. The clarification came from an official from the visa medical department in the wake of buzz on social media about a “new visa rule.”

“The submission of X-ray report is not new. When you undergo medical test at any of the 26 approved private hospitals, it will also include X-ray screening.” A senior official at the Department of Medical Affairs said there are two types of medical tests for taking up employment in Oman.

While one is conducted back home at GAMCA-approved clinics and report sent to Oman for visa processing, the second is conducted for those already in the Sultanate on a visit visa and change it to resident visa after securing employment. According to her, in the first instance, he/she need not submit the X-ray report. For those already here, a clinic or hospital approved by Ministry of Health will carry out internal screening and issue an X-ray report. There are 13 countries where MoH-approved medical centres carry out medical tests. They include India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Egypt, Kenya, among others. She said talks are on with the Philippines authorities to get approval for the medical reports issued by that country.
