By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: March 8 - Accidents involving school transporting vehicles continue to happen on a regular basis in Oman, particularly around the Nizwa area. On Wednesday morning, a bus on the way to University of Nizwa with female students was involved in a serious incident that involved two other vehicles, including a passenger van, on the service road.

The injured students were admitted to the hospital in Nizwa, of which two of them were seriously injured while the rest of the six girls were treated for minor injuries, revealed the source in the Royal Oman Police (ROP).

It may be recalled that early last month in a similar incident, female students of the same university suffered injuries when their bus collided with a truck while on its way to the college.

Also last year, a school bus ferrying students of Indian School Nizwa met with an accident after colliding with a truck while returning a picnic.

The fatal incident led to the loss of lives of students and also that of a teacher.

Accidents involving school transport vehicles are reported regular intervals despite the efforts of the Royal Oman Police and the authorities from the Ministry of High Education and Ministry of Education.

There have been also efforts to instil appropriate monitoring and tracking devices in school buses.

At the same time, the number of accidents decreased by 28.2 per cent, injuries by 10.4 per cent and fatalities by 10.3 per cent over the past year.
