Muscat, Oct 3 - The General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning on Tuesday issued a statement on the National Strategy for Urban Development as part of its efforts to regulate the next phase of urbanisation.

Detailed strategies will be devised for urban development in all governorates of the Sultanate, including an operational plan and regulatory guidelines to integrate the process of monitoring, implementation, budget allocation and decision-making.

The strategy will seek to achieve compatibility and integration of the national-level plans with ones for each governorate.

The National Strategy for Urban Development will be used as a policy to guide the national development plans at all levels. The statement said an integrated project was developed between the preparation of the National Strategy for Urban Development and long-term plans under Oman 2040.

The strategy aims to achieve best practices through comprehensive and integrated national planning, keeping pace with the need for economic and social development, infrastructure development and environmental protection.

The strategy will improve the competitiveness of various governorates in Oman that will strengthen the national economy and exploit the comparative advantage of each governorate.

The strategy will seek to achieve a balance between the economic, social development and the need to address concerns of environmental protection.

The strategy will focus on capacity-building for human resources in general and developing implementation plans, including restructuring of the current strategies.
