MUSCAT: Two groups of students from Indian School Al Ghubra, participated in the 50th World Dance Congress at Athens, Greece from July 5 to 9. It was organised by the International Dance Council CID, Paris. CID is the official partner of Unesco, and the umbrella organisation for all dance forms across the world. ISG is a member of Conseil International De La Danse (CID).

The first group consisted of Aditi Guru of Class 6 and Manvi Shanker of Class 7. They were the youngest participants of the Congress and performed the Indian classical dance form of Kathak. The dance was choreographed by their guru Jhumpa Chakraborty.

The second group had 8 members some of whom were ex-students. They were Amisha Prakash, Ashima Prakash, Ananya Ananthan, Jyotsna Ganesh, Khushi Kishore, Pavithra Ramesh, Rashmi Umashankar and Vidula Karthikeyan. They performed three group dances in the Indian Classical dance form of Bharatanatyam choreographed by their guru Premila Ramesh who is also the president for the Muscat section of CID.

This congress featured performances, lecture demonstrations and workshops for a variety of dance forms from 50 countries. The workshops conducted gave the dancers a golden opportunity to interact with accomplished dancers and learn more about the grace and beauty of dance forms across the globe.

Performing in front of dance researchers, scholars, celebrity performers, renowned choreographers and critics in the historical city of Athens in a 2,500-year-old monument now known as the Dora Stratau Theatre located on the Acropolis was an awe-inspiring experience for the budding dancers. This memorable experience has inspired the young dancers to develop their talents so that they can carry forward the rich legacy of classical Indian dance forms.
