MUSCAT: The ninth meeting of the Legal Committee of the State Council on Monday saw discussions focus on the study related to land laws of the Sultanate. The meeting, headed by Abdul Qadir bin Salim al Dhahab, Head of the Committee, was held in the presence of the committee members and the secretariat staff. The Legal Committee reviewed the legislations governing land in the Sultanate, within the framework of the committee’s study on the ‘Study and review of land laws in the Sultanate’.

It also dealt with the classification of these legislations in terms of organising the laws connected to government lands, the organisation of GCC nationals’ ownership of real estate in member countries and the regulation of real estate ownership in integrated tourism complexes. The four sections of the Sultanate’s land legislations were also discussed.  The committee intends to host officials and specialists to obtain their views on the study, as well as to review land laws in a number of Gulf, Arab and foreign states in order to add value to the study.

The study, which comes within the framework of the council’s examination of the laws passed before the promulgation of the State Basic Law, is aimed at identifying legislative challenges facing the land sector in the Sultanate, suggest ways to address them, either by making some adjustments for the development of the Sultanate’s land system, or examine the appropriateness of proposing a Draft Law advocating the main provisions for residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural and tourism purposes.
