State Council set to discuss Gulf trademarks, aflaj protection

MUSCAT: The State Council will conduct its seventh and eighth regular sessions for the second annual session of the sixth session on April 26 and 27, under the chairmanship of Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council. The Council will discuss the draft law (system) “trademark of the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries (GCC)”, assigned by the Council of Ministers, with the reports of the Economic Committee and of Majlis Ash’shura. It will also discuss the draft law on “regulation and protection of aflaj sites listed on the World Heritage list” referred by the Council of Ministers and the reports of the Committee of Culture, Information and Tourism and the Majlis Ash’shura on it, in addition to the adoption of the minutes of the meetings of the fifth regular meeting.


The Council will discuss the proposal of the Economic Committee on the study of “the development of the capital market and the banking sector,” in addition to discussing the proposal to form a special committee to study the topic of “the development of a national programme of performance and creativity of the government.” The Council will also observe a report on the participation of the Council in the work of the twelfth session of the Conference of the Council of the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which was held on 23-28 January 2017 in Bamako, capital of the Republic of Mali.


Another report on the participation in the Arab Parliamentary Conference held in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco during the period from 20-21 March 2017, and the report submitted by the Head of the Polish Parliamentary Friendship Committee. It will also observe the report of the Secretariat on the activities of the Council for the period between the fifth and sixth meetings and the two meetings. The Secretariat’s report on the status of network readiness in the Sultanate in light of the results of the Global Information Technology Report 2016 will also be referred. — ONA
