State Council panel discusses ways to protect children from accidents

MUSCAT: The Social Committee at the State Council at its sixth meeting for the third annual session, chaired by Dr Hamad bin Sulaiman al Salami, head of the committee, held in the presence of the committee members and the secretariat staff, hosted Ministry of Education officials as part of the committee’s study entitled “Protecting children from accidents”. The committee discussed with the ministry’s officials issues including the factors that lead to accidents, the programmes available to protect children from accidents, their effectiveness, especially in the areas of awareness and reduce the factors that pose a danger to children.


The committee also discussed the coordination between various entities to curtail child accidents, and the procedures and proposals that may contribute to reducing such incidents, including the modernisation of laws and legislation, the development of residential planning and other measures. The delegation included Ali bin Jaber al Dhahli, Director-General of Educational Programmes, Fatima bint Abdul Abbas al Noorani, Director-General of Private Schools, Radia bint Sulaiman al Habsi, Assistant Director of Counselling and Awareness Programmes, Ahmed bin Ismail al Balushi, Head of Health Awareness Department and Talal bin Saeed al Mantheri, Head of Student Affairs, Supervision and Evaluation Department.
