MUSCAT: The bureaus of the State Council and Majlis Ash’shura on Thursday held a joint meeting and approved the draft provisions of draft laws submitted by the Council of Oman. The meeting was chaired by State Council Chairman Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri and Majlis Ash’shura chairman Shaikh Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali in the presence of Secretary General Dr Khalid bin Salim al Saeedi and Shaikh Ali bin Nasser al Mahrouqi, Secretary-General of Majlis Ash’shura.

The meeting approved the formation of a General Assembly and an Executive Committee in order to organise their participation in the activities of regional and international associations.

One of the most important functions of the Assembly is the adoption of the work programme of the Parliamentary Division, consideration of the proposals of the Executive Committee on the continuation or withdrawal of any regional or international organisation or body, and the approval of the annual report of the Executive Committee on the work and activities of the Division.

The role of the Executive Committee is to propose the work programme, to approve participation in regional and international parliamentary meetings, appoint representatives in parliamentary bodies and associations and other institutions in which they participate, and select delegates to Arab and international parliamentary conferences and meetings to implement the decisions and recommendations of the parliamentary conferences.

During the meeting, the State Council and Majlis Ash’shura approved the mechanism of cooperation and media coordination between them, which aims at performing the media coverage of the joint activities and events between the two councils.

The bureau of the two councils stressed the importance of holding periodic meetings between the counterpart committees in both councils, in order to enhance joint coordination between them in the fields of work of these committees and their terms of reference.
