MUSCAT: With the Royal blessings of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Diwan of Royal Court inaugurated the first edition of Al Shabab Scheme of the National Youth Programme for Skills Development. The scheme will start with 1,000 people in the age group 18 to 29 years from all governorates of the Sultanate. Focusing on imparting skills, knowledge and values of the 4th Industrial Revolution through an e-learning platform, it was launched at a session on cyberspace.

Dr Ali bin Qasim al Lawati, Research and Studies Adviser at the Diwan of Royal Court, said: “This programme reaffirms young people are top priority for His Majesty the Sultan. His Majesty directed its implementation at the highest levels of professionalism to achieve the desired benefit.”

“The Diwan of Royal Court adopted and designed this work with constant follow-up by the Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court to ensure the translation of the goals of the Royal orders.”

Al Shabab Scheme will comprise a preliminary stage of three months.

The course will be based on the UDISETE e-learning platform, which offers a Nano Degree, a new type of global certification focusing on technical skills of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

It will focus on three disciplines — data science, software and digital marketing.

This stage aims to equip youngsters with e-learning culture, one of the key elements in the future education.

Following an assessment, participants of the first stage will qualify for the second stage, which will include an enriching educational experience inside the Sultanate and abroad.

The second stage will be held in cooperation with many universities, both local as well as international.

While drawing from successful international experiences, it will apply them to the knowledge and digital economy of the Sultanate.

The process of selecting participants for the programme involved a fair and transparent methodology in accordance with clear competitive criteria.

It was conducted by an independent institution with experience in the field of competency development and human resources development.

With more than 11,000 applications having been received from all governorates, candidates were subjected to online tests at the evaluation centres in different governorates. Eventually, 1,000 candidates were shortlisted for the first stage. The National Youth Programme for Skills Development targets 3,000 Omani youth from various governorates in the age group 15 to 29 years in order to empower them with necessary values, skills and knowledge, and be prepared for the 4th Industrial Revolution. — ONA
