SSDC signs RO14m loan contract with Bank Dhofar

The Salalah Sanitary Drainage Services Company (SSDC) signed a loan agreement with Bank Dhofar on Wednesday to finance the rehabilitation project for its Raysut treatment plant, which aims to raise the average capacity of the main treatment plant from existing 35 thousand cubic metres per day to 53 thousand cubic metres with an ambitious processing target of 106 thousand cubic metres of water.

The signatories to the RO 14 million agreement were Shaikh Abdullah bin Aqeel al Ibrahim, acting Deputy Governor of Dhofar and Kamal Hassan Abdullah al Murazza, General Manager and Chief Wholesale Baning Manager of Bank Dhofar. Al Ibrahim signed the agreement in the capacity of the Chairman of the SSDC. The project is expected to be completed by the middle of 2019.

Ghali Almasashli, CEO of the SSDC, called it an “ambitious project of the fully government owned company, which aims to cover 95 per cent of the Salalah city by 2020.”

“Achieving 85 per cent Omanisation is one of our major achievements along with 900 km length of sewerage network and setting up of 31 main and sub pumping stations. The sewer service coverage ratio reached 90 per cent of the concession area in Salalah City as well as 70 per cent of the developed charts.

All these works could be completed in two phases at Raysut with a capacity of 35,000 cubic metres of water per day. The work at Jarziz had to be completed on a priority basis due to underground reservoir that feeds drinking water to Salalah city.

According to Almasashli, the SSDC achieved the completion of Part I and II of the rehabilitation and development of water treatment networks in Salalah. They were important projects as they involved replacement of some of the pipes and expansion and construction of additional lines. It also involved setting up of water tanks for the development of new networks including one at Al Baleed Resort.

Commenting on water quality Almasashli said that the final product had high quality water with ozone and sustainable disinfectants.
