SQU to organise forum on World Philosophy Day

MUSCAT: On the occasion of the World Philosophy Day (WPD), Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and the ‘East-West’ magazine in Oman will organise today a forum themed ‘The Importance of Philosophy and its Mission in Modern Times,’ under the media coverage of Al Roya Newspaper in two sessions.


The first session will be hosted at 12 pm by the College of Arts and moderated by Dr Noureddine al Chabbi, in which the first paper is by Dr Samir Hassan entitled “The Importance of Philosophy,” the second paper by Dr Ahmed Youssef entitled ‘Philosophy and Critical Thought,’ and the third paper by Dr Mohammed Hassan, entitled ‘Philosophy: between the Reality and Idealism of Science’.


The morning session will conclude with Dr Hassan Ahmed al Lawati’s paper ‘Between Philosophy and Natural Sciences’.


The evening session will be hosted by the Cultural Club at 6 pm and moderated by Mohammed al Ajmi. The first paper will be presented by Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Yaaqoubi, Unesco Representative in the Sultanate, entitled ‘The Message of Philosophy in this Age’.


The second paper will be presented by Dr Jassim al Alawi from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia entitled ‘Between Physics and Philosophy’. The third paper, by Dr Saud Al Zedjali, entitled ‘Habermas and Terrorism’.


The fourth paper, ‘The Relationship of the Soul and the Body in the Philosophy of Descartes and Mullah Sadra’ will be presented by Mohammed bin Ridha al Lawati.


The sessions will conclude with a paper by Khalid Mohammed Abda from the Arab Republic of Egypt themed ‘The Relationship between Sufism and Philosophy.’ — ONA
