SQU, Majlis Ash’shura education committee discuss research policy, practice

MUSCAT: As part of their efforts to review the policies of promoting strategic research in the Sultanate, members of the Education and Research Committee of the Majlis Ash’shura visited Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) on Sunday to discuss research policies and practice with authorities concerned in the university in order to facilitate congenial research environment in the Sultanate by submitting recommendations to the Council of Ministers. Khalid bin Yahya al Subhi, Head of the Education and Research Committee at Majlis Ash’shura, said that the visit aimed to learn about the research infrastructure, facilities, human resources and research output at the university and the challenges faced in promoting research.


The whole idea is to evolve an ideal mechanism in which the educational and research institutions in the Sultanate carry out strategic research that addresses the needs of the community. Dr Salim bin Nasser al Kahali, Deputy Head of the Education and Research Committee, said the committee aims to work together with various stakeholders in the Sultanate to evolve and ideal research policy and funding mechanism for the country.


At SQU, the committee members were received by Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrooqi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies and Research. Presentations on all the research centres at SQU were given for the committee members. Thereafter, the committee members visited some of the research centres. — ONA
