MUSCAT: As part of the community partnership between Sultan Qaboos University and the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, the University hosted the “Food Safety Ambassadors Program” to spread awareness and knowledge on food safety among the members of the community through a group of undergraduate students from different higher institutions in Oman. The programme included a series of interactive lectures on food safety for students to enable them to convey the message among their peers, families, and communities.

The “Food Safety Ambassadors Program” aims to raise awareness and knowledge of food safety and health as part of an integrated programme during the Food Safety Week 2017. The programme included lectures on the relationship between food and health, food safety principles, food hygiene, and food poisoning prevention. One of the lectures focused on how to read food labels in order to allow consumers to make informed choices on what do they eat. Around 100 students from Sultan Qaboos University, Sharqia University, Mazoon College, Al Zahra College, Waljat College of Applied Sciences and Modern College of Commerce and Science participated in the programme.
