SQU Board clears setting up of innovation centre

MUSCAT: The Board of the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) has approved the establishment of Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre at the university. The centre will help academics and students with the educational process and the participation in all fields related to innovation and entrepreneurship. On Monday, the SQU Board held its fourth meeting for the academic year 2017-2018 under the chairmanship of Dr Rawya bint Saud al Busaidiyah, Minister of Higher Education and Chairman of SQU Board. The board reviewed the report on the implementation of the university’s executive plan for 2016 and 2017. It also reviewed the investment report as well as a paper regarding the futuristic academic programmes of the university.


The meeting’s agenda included a number of topics on which the board took suitable decisions. The board discussed a proposal for reinforcing interaction between the university and the society in the cultural and specialised fields in cooperation with the cultural institutions. The board approved the budget of the university’s administration and the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital for fiscal 2019. It also approved the restructuring of the university’s courses starting from the academic year 2018-2019 to keep pace with the contemporary social and cultural developments. The board suggested the adoption of performance indicators in preparing the budgets of various programmes and activities in the coming period. — ONA
