By Kaushalendra Singh — SALALAH: May 17 - It was a special occasion for the children with special needs as the Al Wafa Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled organised an event in which a large number of special children and their parents took part. These children were seen taking active part in the activities, singing and clapping before and after the programmes designed especially for them. Many of them were honoured with certificates, which meant more than certificates in recognition of their participation. It meant the government’s commitment towards special children and their parents and assurance to them that everyone in the event hall felt and appreciated.

Najib bin Ali bin Ahmed al Rawas, Under-Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, was the Chief Guest of the occasion. He along with Abdullah bin Sulaiman al Sabai, Director-General of Social Development in Dhofar Governorate, interacted with the children and their parents, heard their issues and assured all possible assistance for the proper care of the children.

Al Wafa Centers for Rehabilitation of the Disabled from Salalah, Taqa and Murbat attended the gathering, which was supported by Raysut Cement Company (RCC) as corporate partner towards the wellbeing of the special children. One of the largest construction partners of the Sultanate, the RCC extended all possible support to the Al Wafa Centers.

Mariam bint Mohsin al Maamari, Director of Al Wafa Center in Taqah, welcomed the participants and said: “The occasion brings us together to celebrate the end of the 2016-2017 qualifying year for Al Wafa Centers at the governorate level, where this annual celebration is the culmination of the fruits of giving, working with diligence and perseverance to the employees or children enrolled in them.”

“Al Wafa Centers are platforms for giving and empowering the children with the best of the education tools. It is a support to families having special children and our full commitment to make their life better.

“I thank the Ministry of Social Development for understanding our requirements and coming forward for the betterment of the society. Al Wafa Centers have achieved great goals in identifying and classifying different kinds of disabilities, as also in organising education and personality development tools for them,” she said. Al Maamari praised the role of RCC for supporting all the programmes of Al Wafa for the rehabilitation of the handicapped in Dhofar Governorate and its support for Disabled Day, World Day, World Autism Day and the Arab Deaf Week.
