Some areas to be exempt from mid-day break?

Muscat, Aug 14 - The Ministry of Manpower is seeking opinion on whether some governorates should be exempted from the mid-day break due to the differences in temperature. An opinion poll that began on August 8 will continue until August 29. As of now, 58.33 per cent of the votes polled are in favour of the exemption. The opinion poll holds significance as places such as Dhofar do not witness high temperature unlike the rest of the country. As per Article 16 of the Occupational Health and Safety Measures under the Ministerial Decision 286/2008, workers should not work in construction sites or open areas of high temperature between 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm during the months of June, July and August every year. An employer or his representative is liable to pay a fine of not less than RO 100 and not more than RO 500 and a jail term of one month or one of these penalties for violation of the law.
