Solar eclipse not visible in Sultanate

Muscat, August 20 - The total solar eclipse, visible within a band across the United States today, will not be visible in the Sultanate, say experts. While the celestial phenomenon will be visible in the other countries as a partial eclipse, Oman will not get to see it, says Sulaiman al Busaidi, Curator, PDO Planetarium. “Oman is not on the solar eclipse path; it will be visible across the United States while it’s night here,” said Al Busaidi. The solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the earth and the sun, thereby totally or partly obscuring the image of the sun for viewers. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon’s apparent diameter is larger than the sun’s, blocking all direct sunlight, turning day into darkness.
