MUSCAT: A group of students from the Sohar University on Tuesday received an opportunity to observe the State Council session. Abdullah bin Saif Mohamed al Sibani, Director of the Culture, Information and Tourism Committee, introduced to the students the Council’s role and powers and outlined the stages of the development process of Shura in the Sultanate, built on the foundations of sound and effective democratic practice. The lecture touched on the special provisions of the State Council, which spells out the number of members, their appointment, terms of membership, and roles of the Majlis Ash’shura and the State Council. He highlighted the legislative and oversight powers of the Council and the Council’s activities and achievements during the previous periods. The differences between the State Council and the Shura Council was also highlighted.
