MUSCAT: The Social Committee meeting, chaired by Dr Hamad bin Sulaiman al Salmi, Head of the Committee, hosted Dr Yahya bin Mohammed al Hinai, Director-General for Family Development, and officials of the Ministry of Social Development.
The hosting is connected to the committee’s study on the theme ‘Child protection against accidents’. The committee discussed with the officials number of issues related to the programmes available to protect children from accidents and the effectiveness of these programmes in reducing child accidents.
The committee also discussed the prevalence of child accidents and their common nature, methodology of data collection and the role of the Ministry of Social Development in raising the awareness of society about the seriousness of these incidents and ways of reducing them.
In course of the meeting, the committee reviewed the procedures and proposals that may contribute to the reduction of accidents, in addition to the level of coordination between the Ministry of Social Development and various parties to reduce child accidents. At the end of the meeting, the minutes of the previous meeting of the committee were approved and updated and action taken.
