Singapore: Singapore Airlines is set to sign a new deal with airplane manufacturer Boeing worth 13.8 billion Singapore dollars($10.1 billion) during Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s planned visit to the US next week.  “We are hoping to sign an agreement between SIA (Singapore Airlines)and Boeing to buy more aeroplanes,” Lee said during an interview with business broadcaster CNBC, released on Friday. “I think that is a done deal.”

According to its most recent annual report, Singapore Airlines signed a letter of intent with Boeing in February for 20 777-9s and 19 787-10s, a purchase it says will allow for additional growth and fleet modernisations through the next decade. The order, based on published list prices, includes flexibility for the airline to substitute the 787-10 orders for other variants of the 787 plane series. However, the deal is yet to be finalised and is still in Boeing’s order book.A Singapore Airlines spokesperson confirmed to local media on Friday that the deal is expected to be formally signed during the Prime Minister’s visit to Washington, which is scheduled from October 22 to 26.  — dpa
