Shura Council’s panel visits CAS Nizwa

Members of the Committee of Education and Scientific Research in the Majlis Ash’shura recently visited the College of Applied Sciences, Nizwa, in connection with the funding of scientific research in Oman and its impact on research movement.


The members of the committee were received by the Faculty of Applied Sciences.


Dr Said bin Khalaf al Nabhani, Dean of the College, gave a description of the five faculties of applied sciences, its majors as well as information about the number of students in the Faculty of Applied Sciences.


He said Omanis accounted for 60 per cent of the total teaching staff.


A visual presentation by students of mass communication about the college and its specialisations was displayed on the occasion.


This was followed by a presentation on the funding of scientific research at Faculty of Applied Sciences, Nizwa, and its impact on scientific research.


Dr Said bin Abdullah al Saifi, Head of Scientific Research at the College, discussed the ways of supporting research in the college, number of researches published in scientific periodicals and the number of researches funded by the Scientific Research Council.


Al Saifi said the research studies submitted for budget support from the General Requirements Section and the Department of Mass Communication were awaiting approval.


The International Business Department’s research has been granted approval.


A debate on the financing of scientific research and its impact on research movement was also held.


It saw discussions between members of the committee and the college.


They spoke about the awards received by the college in scientific research and how research serves the teaching specialties and the community.


They also dwelt on how to benefit from a graduate student’s research.


The debate shed light on the challenges faced by researchers, including time constraints.


Support and budget were some of the challenges affecting scientific research, they felt.


The committee members also toured the facilities of the college.
