MUSCAT: Shell Oman signed an agreement with Dar Al  Atta’a Association to support the Big Give Competition for its 2017 edition.

The sponsorship agreement was signed at Shell Oman Marketing Company’s head office by Chris Breeze, Shell’s Country Chairman, Mohammed Mahmood al Balushi, Chief Executive Officer of Shell Oman Marketing Company, and Maryam Issa al Zadjali, Chairperson of Dar Al  Atta’a Association, in the presence of senior management representatives of both organisations. The Big Give Competition is a nationwide initiative by Dar Al  Atta’a, first launched in March 2012, and is currently in its sixth round.  Teams from different universities and colleges in the Sultanate compete against each other to come up with innovative ideas that can help raise funds and awareness while contributing to the various charity programmes run by Dar Al  Atta’a.

The competition in 2016, which was also sponsored by Shell Oman, helped raise more than RO 32,500 for Dar Al  Atta’a, and landed the well-established association its second Sultan Qaboos Award for Volunteer Work which highlights the importance of this initiative and its influence among members of the society.

Commenting on this occasion, Chris Breeze, Shell’s Country Chairman in Oman, stated, “Shell is very proud to support Dar Atta’as Big Give Competition this year. We hope that by providing this support, we will help the initiative in realising its ultimate goal of encouraging students to develop and manage a successful charity project and to raise funds for Dar Al  Atta’a. Social investment programmes that facilitate social and enterprise development help to build sustainable and strong communities.”

Speaking about the agreement, Mohammed Mahmood said, “This is an excellent opportunity for us to help spread Shell Oman’s social investment programme at a nationwide platform. Our strategic long-term partnership with Dar Al  Atta’a is in line with our commitment to corporate social responsibility and supporting local community development efforts.  This competition will enable youth in Oman to drive their enthusiasm towards becoming active members of the society while spreading the message of philanthropy. We hope that students who will participate in this programme will not only be able to raise funds for charity, but also learn various competencies and skills that will contribute to their career development such as communications, marketing, project management among others.”

Maryam al Zadjali commented: “we are very happy to collaborate once more with shell in The Big Give Competition. We consider this competition as one of the very important initiatives which we organise for the great impact it has on the students’ personalities in terms of team work, planning, confidence and responsibility. We extend our gratitude to Shell for their support and help always.”
